With so many types of roofs out there, it can be hard to choose what you want. Do you want a pitched roof with asphalt tiles? Fiberglass? Shingle or metal? Or do you want a flat roof?
While there are many benefits to pitched roofs, such as their ability to slough off water effortlessly and prevent pooling, there are also a number of benefits associated with having a flat roof:
- It’s more cost-effective. A flat roof is among the cheapest types of roofs to install. This is because, instead of calculating where peaks need to fall along the roof for optimal building conditions and water runoff, a flat roof simply needs to be level and paved.
- It adds another layer to your home. Although it is difficult and, at times, dangerous to go out on top of a pitched roof, a flat roof is perfectly safe not only to walk around on but also to keep furniture and other things. A flat roof can be the ideal place for a rooftop garden or a place to host dinner parties.
- It gives you space for an HVAC system. Instead of having to find a place for your HVAC system elsewhere on the ground level of your property, having a flat roof means that you are able to keep your HVAC system out of sight while still being close to the property.
Depending on what you want from your property, a flat roof might very well be something to consider when you are picking out the type of roof you want for it.
