When you have a roofer over for a construction job, there are a couple of things that you can do in order to ensure the safety of the roofer, as well as the safety of the things you keep around your house. Here are a few of the most important things you can do before having a roofer come to look at your roof:

How to Prepare for a Roofer

  • Clear a path from the curb to your roof. This can mean moving things like toys, potted plants, gardening supplies, or even your vehicles. Roofers need a clear path in order to get from the supplies in their vehicle to your roof. And, in the case of roof replacements or partial replacements, they will also be taking damaged materials from your roof to a dumpster at the curb. It is recommended that you move your car, even if you have a garage out of the way, because it can become trapped depending on where your roofers park along the curb.
  • Mark anything you cannot move that needs to be treated delicately or with caution. This can be things like hidden water features, sprinklers, trees, or flower beds. With clear and easily seen markings, roofers will know to give these features of your yard a healthy amount of distance.
  • Move things in the attic. If you have anything valuable or important in your attic, move it downstairs or otherwise protect it from any debris that might fall during construction.
  • Prepare small children and pets. Whether it’s a day trip, daycare, or sending them to friends or family, it is often best to keep small children and pets away from roofing work.

When in doubt, you can always ask us what would be best to do during the estimate.
